Lakmé, India’s first indigenous cosmetics brand with wide success was launched in 1952 by Mr. J.R.D. Tata, a Parsee iconic visionary. Lakmé fashion week is the largest, bi-annual Indian fashion event organized in Mumbai. The chaotic backstage atmosphere creates a massive frenzy especially when A-list actors, musicians, supermodels and a host of behind the scenes workers are present. A fashion show is a whole lot of unknowns and even though designers have been preparing for months in advance, there are always last-minute fixes and upsets. There is an army of people, working day and night to make sure the show goes off without a hitch. Given the opportunity to document backstage scenes of the largest fashion show in India for a few seasons, one understands it takes months of preparation and plenty of hard work. Despite the glam factor, fashion shows are one of the most demanding and expensive events to produce where every detail, large and small, is meticulously handled. (Khushnum Bhandari)
